For many years Simon has helped to pioneer integrated approaches to health care. He led professional, regulatory and academic initiatives in the complementary health movement from its earliest days and as a herbal practitioner since 1977 is also an acknowledged authority on the therapeutics, safety and regulatory control of herbal medicines. From 2008-11 he managed a large Department of Health project exploring the role of self care in family practice that anticipated the role of social prescribing and led to a job description of the future NHS Link Worker.
In 2016 he joined the Pukka Herbs to help develop their health strategy. Pukka is a major international force for their teas, and is particularly associated with a sustainable health and wellbeing message. It also has a range of food supplements and is planning to expand further as a force for good in natural health care. A particular outcome of their support is the new self care and social prescription resource hosted by the College of Medicine at Our Health Directory (https://ourhealth.directory) that includes an updated ‘Self Care Toolkit’ created on the Department of Health project.
